💥UPSC 2026, 2027 UAP Mentorship - June Batch Starts

Some feel that values keep changing with time and situation, while others firmly believe that there are certain universal and eternal human values. Give your perception in this regard with due justification. 10 marks

Mentor’s comment-

  • In the introduction define what you understand by values.
  • In the body discuss what constitutes values in an individual’s life.
Values – They are the qualities and ideas that help guide our behaviour and define who we are. Our values come from our beliefs, and are formed by various means. Some examples of values are achievement, bravery, carefulness, challenge, compassion, generosity, honesty, humor, kindness, knowledge, open mindedness, perseverance, respect, self-control, etc. Explain why and how values change.
  • Conclude that basic values do get wear and tear when they get accustomed to the external world.

      Hi Arun
Your answer looks like an essay, refrain from monotony, use proper headings and subheadings to present your answer in a better structured manner.
Write 3-4 lines in the introduction, you can add that values give meaning and strength to a person’s character by occupying a central place in his/her life.
Try to diversify your answer, give examples of Indian traditional values like ‘Vasudev Kutumbakam’’ and universal brotherhood.
Fragment your content under two headings- relative and absolute values.
      Work on content and presentation.
      Improve your handwriting.
      Keep working hard.

      Hi Vishwanath
      Mention your payment id.
First thing, work on your handwriting, write neat and legible.
      Good introduction.
Relate the values with current context, like you can write thalues evolve to bring order in the society and are culture specific. They evolve along with the cultures.
For ex: The present generation of Indian society is more ambition sensitive showing more assertiveness, instead of Indian traditional values of sacrifice and selflessness.
The norms of nuclear family and even live-in relationships are more socially accepted today.
      Overall a good attempt.
Persistence is the key to success, keep writing !
