Q.4 Literacy levels have been increasing in India over the past few decades, and the literacy rate was found to be 74.04 per cent after the 2011 census. Though this increase in literacy rate seems like a very great accomplishment, it is a matter of concern that still so many people in India cannot even read and write. Children are going to school but not learning much beyond “floor level tasks”. Moreover, the higher literacy level has not resulted in better human values and this is manifested in the troubled atmosphere in the society at large. This failure of the education system to reform human behavior is troubling for a young democracy, like India. Given this situation, answer the following: (a) What role is education expected to play in reforming human behaviour and inculcating human values? (b) Do you think only the government is responsible for this state of the education system? If not, identify the stakeholders who should press for a change in the education system in this regard. (20 Marks)

      Well attempted. Both parts are good.In part a, you can mention about the feedback loop of teachers and peer group that education provides; also its role in developing the power of reasoning and judgement in an individual can be mentioned. Other points are nicely written.
      Second part is also good, while writing about govt. you can mention about limitations of govt too- limited resources; inadequate demand for quality education; lack of public support etc
      Rest of the answer is good.

      Nice attempt. In part a, in the beginning you can mention ASER report which usually points towards lack of reading, writing and arithmetic skills. Points about education are good, role in providing livelihood and reducing crimes can also be mentioned.
      Part b is also fine, first mention the limitations of the government- limited resources; inadequate demand for quality education; lack of public support etc- then move on to the next part.
      Rest of the answer is fine.
      In conclusion, New education policy can also be mentioned.

      Introduction part is too long..you won’t get so much time in exam conditions..although points and data are good, pick the important ones and make it concise.
      Part a is also well written, some points can be added for example praxticality-provides livelihood opportunities-leads to less crimes; vital role in development of reason and judgement in an individual etc
      Other points are good too.
      In part b, first mention the limitations of the government- limited resources; inadequate demand for quality education; lack of public support etc- then move on to the next part.
      Rest of the answer is fine.
      Mention a conclusion suggesting some govt initiatives or a way forward.
