      Introduction is fine, other simple method would be to define a political party.
      Significance part is decent, you can mention that they are agents of democracy and safety valves in the political system.
      However, next part can be improved.. In defection, usually legislators defect to an other party or there is a merger supported by 2/3rd of members, here case is a bit different, none of these things have happened, two rival factions in one party are claiming to be original one..
      Here, The Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order 1968 need to be mentioned..it deals with the matters like allotment of symbols in Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies and recognition of political parties; Paragraph 15 of this Order empowers the election Commission to recognize the party formed by a splinter or rival groups, based upon the available facts and circumstances of the case.
      Also, you can give the precedence of Sadiq Ali vs ECI case, where decison was made by ECI based on substantial majority.
      A conclusion could be written after that.
