Q.2) After the Prakash Singh judgement on police reforms, we are today confronted with a situation where every state is legislating a different Police Act. What are the issues with these Acts passed by the States? Suggest the way forward to deal with the issue. ( 10 Marks)

In the intro, mention the landmark Prakash Singh judgment and directives issued to the states.

In the body, mention the passage of police acts by the state in violation of the Supreme Court directive and mere a legislative cover to protect the existing arrangements. This is also creating different arrangements in different states. In the suggestion mention need for Model Police Act by the Centre, need for fresh look at the distribution of powers under the seventh schedule.

Conclude by mentioning the need for a uniform police structure in the country.

      Nice attempt. Introduction is good.

      Mention some more points in what were the reforms suggested by SC in Prakash Singh case- fixing minimum tenure of IGPs so as to avoid mid-term transfers by political executive, establishments of police establishment board for postings and transfers etc

      Issues mentioned are fine. You can talk about some arbit appointments and almost 18 states legislating different acts in recent times.

      Way forward and conclusion is fine.
