Mentor’s Comments-

  • Introduce the answer with a timeline of Chalukyas.
  • Substantiate on how temple building was unique and characterised by hybrid style with few examples during the time.
  • Conclude with its contribution to the cultural legacy.

      Your answer is decent.
      Introduction and conclusion are fine.
The content can be divided into two parts to improve the presentation- first part about hybrid features (inspiration from other styles); next part about the uniqueness.
      Examples mentioned are good.
Read the reply to the other answer in this thread to improve upon the content.

The introduction and conclusion is fine but the content is lacking a bit.
You need to focus on the keywords of the question.
Both uniqueness and hybrid characteristics need to be taken into account.
In hybrid characteristics you need to write about some influences in the Chalukyan architecture like-
Temple Pillars bear similarity to pillars in northern India.
Articulation in shrine design- plan of shrine, subsidiary shrine, panchayatan style etc bears similarity to Nagara school.
Influence of the eastern Nagara Style- vestibule joining the sanctum to mantapa bears resemblance to Orissa temples.
Ornamentation- ornamentation of walls in Chalukya temples show combination of both Nagara and Dravida style.
      Vimana- Dravida influence
Influence of the Persian- Arabesque art design bearing linear artistic decoration with pattern
of flower, leaves, branches or twisted branches etc
Then mention some unique features like- small base design, horseshoe base, Square Garbhagriha, Inner pradakshina patha etc; Stambha Mandapa (Navaranga) and Sukhanasi along with the Garbhagriha; entrance hall to the shrine; monolithic shaft pillars; use of soapstone for projection in wall carvings etc
Some major examples like temples at Aihole,Badami and Pattadakal can be mentioned.
Keep practicing..read a bit more about the topic to differentiate between Hoysala and Chalukyan temple architecture. 🙂
