💥UPSC 2026, 2027 UAP Mentorship - June Batch Starts

Compare the procedures adopted in the Indian and the U.S. Constitution towards the constitutional amendment. Do you agree with the view that the flexibility towards amendment procedure has led to more number of amendments to the Indian constitution? 10 marks

Mentor’s comment-
  • In the intro, briefly explain what constitutional amendment is.
  • In the body, compare the various provisions of article 5 of the U.S., in which either Federal government or the state can initiate the procedure, ratification by the 3/4 states and contrast this with India in which constitution can be amended in 3 ways, States cannot start the process for amendment, ratification by only half states even when ratification is required. Express your views with reason whether the flexibility in the process could have led to more number of amendments.
  • Conclude by expressing the utility of the amendment procedure in keeping pace with the changing times.

      Hi Parakh
      Good introduction.
Compare with similar points, if you are writing Article of India on one side, write similar Article of US.
Our most of the amendments are not trivial in nature, you are questioning the credibility of Parliament.
      Work on content.
Write about the flexibility of Indian constitution and compare it with US constitution.
      Good conclusion.

      Hi Chester
Lackluster introduction, do not write what one can do, simply explain what do you mean by constitutional amendment.
Use proper headings and subheadings to present your answer in a better form.
Work on sentence formation, many of your sentences need to be rephrased.
Question is not asking whether the Indian constitution amendments are under judicial review or not, so do not waste your words and space in proving that.
Adhere to the demand of the question.
      Read mentor’s comment before writing.
Work on grammar and avoid spelling mistakes.
      Work hard, you will improve.

Lackluster introduction, first define what is constitutional amendment.

Work on sentence formation, many of your sentences need to be rephrased.
Instead of writing procedures, explain the differences.
