You have 85 days after Prelims for Mains 2025. This is far less time than what students had this year. If you are not gearing up your preparation in the next 4 months, your Mains attempt will be in jeopardy. Hence, having a roadmap at this point becomes crucial.

The UPSC CSE GS papers were recently completed, and we at Civilsdaily came live to give you our first reactions on those days. As promised, we will be bringing you detailed discussions on all the GS papers—GS Paper 1, 2, 3, and 4—in a 4-day conclave.

This year’s papers were a mixed bag, with UPSC covering a wide range of question types— from easy to moderate and moderate to difficult. They asked everything, from changing the name of a tornado to a twister, to out-of-the-box questions like merging urban and rural local bodies. There was also an opinion-based question in the mains format: “Is the Supreme Court of India the most powerful judiciary in the world?” The Ethics paper was lengthy, while GS Paper 3 followed the expected lines of previous year questions (PYQs). Overall, UPSC CSE Mains truly stood out from all other exams.

Our detailed discussion won’t be just a list of ChatGPT-driven pointers, but rather the result of the serious efforts our mentors have put into identifying the nuances of the papers for you. From the 25th to the 28th, we will be focusing on the following:

Note-making is a technique—a very useful one, in our opinion. No one achieves a rank without making notes. As your exam approaches, notes become crucial for revision. The notes themselves need design: lots of examples, relevance to PYQs, and easy-to-read language. The syllabus content needs to be broken up into consumable chunks. It’s design, design and more design. Check our atomic and flash notes, and you will understand what we mean. A well-constructed system is the first element of the program at CD but by no means the most important.

Trying to cope with breathless content all at once is extremely intimidating for the aspirants. When you’re in a Civilsdaily Mentorship program, you get the content well in advance. Element No. 2: The Group

A journey of a thousand miles can be really intimidating without a group because UPSC -CSE requires MCQ and answer writing aptitude, which requires constant practice. When you work alone, it’s easy to give up or get distracted. A group is what gets you ahead. But how do you get a group that’s focused, smart, and helpful? Do such groups even exist?

There’s a saying in Africa: If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go with a group. And yet, not any group will do, will it? You’ve been in Telegram groups before, and the terms “kind, helpful and smart” don’t come to mind, do they?

The one thing that will amaze you at Civilsdaily is how much you come to rely on your group. At first, many aspirants assume that their progress is a lonely journey. They learn what’s required, do their mocks, and when the course is done, they get to the finish line.

And yet habit-creation reveals something entirely different.

Snagging a bad habit is relatively easy. The moment you have to build a “good habit,” it’s a lot harder to stay motivated—unless, of course, you have a group.

You won’t know if you are making any progress at all.

Starting your UPSC preparation with a timetable is crucial. Mains in 2025 start early in August, so beginning this August gives you exactly 12 months to prepare for the exam. Preparing for prelims and mains in an integrated manner is necessary, and planning each day is essential. Pritesh Sir, now an IRS officer, was part of our UAP 2023 cohort. He credits much of his success to his mentor, Shubham Jatte Sir. Shubham Sir’s methodology, especially regarding content and timetable, worked best for him. Pritesh Sir emphasized the importance of staying consistent, noting that the timetable must be precise, workable, and tailored to the aspirant’s needs, covering all three stages of the exam.
