Q.4 An independent and empowered social audit mechanism is an absolute must in every sphere of public service, including judiciary, to ensure performance, accountability and ethical conduct. Elaborate. (10 Marks)

Mentor’s Comments-

  • In introduction, elaborate on the social audit mechanism along with some examples such as MGNREGA.
  • In the body, first mention why social audit is a must to ensure performance, accountability and ethical conduct.
  • Then, mention some points on why it is required specifically for the judiciary.
  • Conclude with a way forward.

      Decent attempt.
Introduction is fine, you can include some examples like MGNREGA where social audit has been made compulsory.
In next part, points mentioned are good. Ineffectiveness of financial audit can also be mentioned.
Points regarding judiciary are also good. Try to mention about existing issues such as contempt provision sometimes even restricting constructive criticism, legislature not allowed to discuss judicial conduct etc
Drawbacks of current social audit regime can be mentioned in the last, along with a brief way forward such as giving legal backing to social audit.
      Conclusion is fine.
      Keep practicing. 🙂

      Decent attempt.
      Introduction is good.
In next part, give subheading- importance of social audit in public service.
Points mentioned are good, try to keep this part a bit concise, judiciary part has to be given more focus. Use of diagram is good.
In next part, you have mentioned some generic terms in first point like ‘somewhat opaque’, ‘certain provisions’ – can elaborate them a bit better by mentioning the issues specifically- appointments and transfers, contempt provision sometimes even restricting constructive criticism, legislature not allowed to discuss judicial conduct, etc
Other points are good, try to make them judiciary specific.
Conclusion is not clear. Drawbacks of current social audit regime can be mentioned in the last, along with a brief way forward such as giving legal backing to social audit.
      Keep writing. 🙂
