Q.1 The government has recently proposed to raise the legal age of marriage for women in India to 21. In this context, examine whether the raising of marriage age will serve its purpose? (15 Marks)

  • In way forward mention about the Jaya Jaitley taskforce and some of its other recommendations.

      Decent attempt.
      Intro is good, however you can mention some of the previous laws that need to be amended, resistance through personal laws can also be mentioned.
      Content of the answer is good.
      In drawbacks you can also mention criminalization of women marrying between 18 and 21, adverse effect on poor women etc
      Other points are fine.
      Way forward and conclusion are also good.

      Introduction is good, historical background and benefits are also nicely explained.
      However, in criticism it seems you have got emotional. Just think from exam perspective and mention some points like criminalisation of women marrying between 18 and 21 in addition to social issued they face; parents can file case if children marry against their wishes, effect on poor families etc
      In way forward mention some other recommendations of Jaya Jaitley taskforce.
      Other points are good.
      Conclusion is fine.
