Q.2 The real choice for the world is not just navigating between China and the United States. It is fundamentally between an orientation that is committed to global problem-solving rather than just preserving national supremacy. Comment. (10 Marks)

  • In the intro, mention the new era of great power competition between the US and China.
  • In the body, mention two dynamics that shaped the great power competition viz. global economic interdependence and common challenges fostering greater global competition. In the next part, mention the lack of cooperation among countries on Covid-19 issue and how it does not bode well for the above two dynamics.
  • Conclude by mentioning that global problem solving will require countries to be collaborative when they should be, rather than merely when they can be.

Nice attempt, you have mentioned some good points. Intro is fine. Approach of countries vis-a -vis China and US is also good. However, mention one part explaining how countries are prioritising national supremacy over global good.
You can use examples of Covid(vaccine nationalism, export ban etc), climate finance etc
Also, don’t restrict your answer to China and US. The question is saying that all countries are trying to prioritise national supremacy, so we should try to advocate global problem-solving by all..overall answer is decent, incorporate these points an it should be good to go.
      Keep writing. 🙂

      Nandhini,

You have got the crux of the answer correct but give more examples about how countries are prioritising national supremacy over global good in the first part of the answer. Issues like vaccine nationalism, trade wars, climate finance etc can be talked.
You can use examples other than US-China too. This question is more about a choice between policies rather than a choice between countries.
Second part of the answer is fine. Conclusion is okay, you can talk a bit more about the need of collaborative approach.
      Conclusion is fine.

      Muskan,

Nice attempt, you have covered most points..intro is fine. Rather than mentioning need of co-operation as the subheading, you can mention it as how co-operation has helped in global problem-solving. We have to advocate about that. Also, you can talk about how common challenges have given rise to competitive spirit, thereby helping all in the past.
Next part is good, you have mentioned most challenges prevailing in the current context; can use examples other than US/China too.
      Conclusion is fine.
      Keep writing. 🙂

      Hello

Intro is fine, after that you have directly moved to why global co-operation is required, first mention how global co-operation has helped in the past and its advantages.
Issues mentioned are fine, keep it a bit concise; also include Covid-19 angle(vaccine nationalism etc).
Also, the answer ends abruptly, you can either mention a brief way forward or write a forward-looking concluding statement.
Try to link the answer more with current context, rather than just mentioning generic points.
      Keep writing. 🙂
