Q.3 India’s power landscape is dominated by thermal power plants. However, the rapid growth of variable renewable energy sources has necessitated the transition plan. In context of this, suggest the broad contours of the transition from thermal to variable renewable energy sources. (10 Marks)

      Siddharth,

The first two paragraphs seem like an introduction, too long. Keep it concise, just mention some data to show how we are changing from coal to renewable.
After that mention few points regarding the need to transition to renewable, and some of the flagship govt initiatives in that direction- solar, wind, e-vehicles etc

After that mention the plan of action, which doubles up as a way forward too. Points are good there.
Conclusion is fine. Keep writing. 🙂

      Nandhini,

In introduction, mention some data about share of renewable energy too, it will help to justify ‘rapid growth of renewable energy’ as mentioned in question.

Drawbacks of coal based energy are fine, in transition to renewable energy part you can mention some more govt initiatives, use flow diagram to cover more points. Rather than writing challenges in transition, mention a way forward- where you can subtly include points which mitigate the challenges, also mention points like phasing out of polluting, inefficient thermal power plants, increasing the utilization of existing High-Efficiency-Low-Emission (HELE) TPPs that are currently under-utilized, making renewable energy cost effective etc

      Conclusion is fine. Keep practicing.:)

      Muskan,

Nice attempt. Introduction is fine, need for transition part is also good. In govt. initiatives, mention some initiatives in renewable energy other than solar too, wind energy, e-vehicles etc

A brief way forward consisting of 2-3 points can also be written, where you can talk about things like increasing the utilization of existing High-Efficiency-Low-Emission (HELE) TPPs that are currently under-utilized, making renewable energy cost effective etc

Conclusion is good, keep writing. 🙂
